YOU MAY ALREADY BE A PRODUCER.
And it has nothing to do with owning a microphone.
When most people hear the word producer, they think about movies, television, music or podcasts.
I see it differently.
A producer is someone who can look at what they have, recognize what they need and figure out how to connect the two.
Producers see possibilities.
We connect people and ideas. We solve problems. We create opportunities. We make decisions. We adjust when the plan changes. And when something doesn’t exist yet, we figure out how to build it.
Sound familiar?
You may have been doing these things your entire career without ever calling yourself a producer.
SEE.
CONNECT.
SOLVE.
CREATE.
DELIVER.
Maybe you’re the person people come to when something needs to get done.
Maybe you see solutions before everyone else sees the problem.
Maybe you’re constantly connecting people, sharing resources or finding a better way forward.
Those aren’t just personality traits.
Those are valuable skills.
And once you learn how to recognize them, develop them and intentionally apply them beyond the place where you learned them, something changes.
You stop defining yourself only by your job title.
You start seeing what else you’re capable of creating.
That’s what it means to Think Like a Producer.

FROM THE ATTIC TO THE BOARDROOM.
I Didn’t Know I Was Building a Career. I Was Producing One.
My journey started with a microphone, an idea and a podcast produced from my parents’ attic in Detroit.
There wasn’t some master career plan.
I was creating.
Learning.
Solving problems.
Building relationships.
Figuring things out when things went wrong.
And producing.
More than 1,500 podcast episodes later, those same skills have taken me into corporate spaces, onto stages, behind cameras, into boardrooms and into opportunities I couldn’t have imagined when I started.
That’s when something became clear:
Podcasting didn’t just teach me how to produce content.
It taught me how to produce value.
And once I understood that, I stopped looking at my creative skills as things that belonged behind a microphone.
They became career capital.
That’s the idea behind Think Like a Producer.
I’m Q. Lewis—producer, author, corporate multimedia professional, entrepreneur and speaker.
And now I’m teaching other people how to recognize the value hidden inside the skills they’ve been building all along.
